How to Prepare

How To Prepare For Your Pest Treatment

When you hire Maritime Pest Control Inc., we’re happy to turn your pest problem into a distant memory! In order to make the process of treating pests as effective and efficient as possible, please follow the preparation guides found on this page. We have separate preparation guides for the following scenarios:

Preparation Guidelines for Insects In Food/Cupboards

  • Remove all food, dishes and utensils from cupboards, drawers, counters, stove, fridge top and any other food storage areas.
  • Remove all items from bathroom shelves, vanities and counters.
  • Ensure access to baseboards in your home by moving all furniture 6 to 8 inches away from the wall.
  • Ensure access to baseboards, walls and shelves in the basement and closet/storage areas.
  • Closet floors must be clear; clothes may remain hanging.
  • Shut off all fish tanks and seal tank openings with plastic.
  • All adults, children and pets MUST LEAVE PREMISES for a period of 6 HOURS from completion of service.

NOTE: Do not wash cupboards for 3 months; lay down a barrier of Mac Tac, wax paper, or newspaper as a liner.

Preparation Guidelines for Bed Bugs Treatment

  • Strip linens / blankets / comforters from all beds and wash/dry in as hot temperature as fabric allows and place in sealed bag or container.
  • Place curtains, comforters or items that cannot be washed in the dryer and heat as hot as fabric allows for 30 minutes, then place in plastic bags or sealed plastic containers.
  • Empty all items from dresser drawers, night table(s) and placed in sealed plastic bags / plastic containers.
  • BED MATTRESSES and BOX SPRINGS must be propped up against the wall for easy access.
  • The corner pieces on mattresses and/or box springs should be removed if necessary as they tend to be good hiding places for the bedbugs.
  • Remove all clutter and clear all clothes/linen/broom/storage closet floors and place in center of room floor. Clothes can stay hanging.
  • Suitcases should be EMPTIED so they can be treated both inside and out.
  • Move furniture away from walls in all rooms except kitchen as we need access to treat all baseboards.
  • TORN OR RIPPED MATTRESSES should be wrapped and disposed of. If not torn too badly, we recommend you purchase a bed bugs mattress cover.
  • Get rid of all cardboard in the unit as they make an excellent home for bed bugs. Use plastic bags or plastic containers with lids.
  • Vacuum unit before treatment. Throw out the vacuum bag immediately. Seal tightly in a double plastic bag.
  • Fish tanks (if any) must have their pumps turned off and tank opening sealed with a plastic film.
  • All adults, children and pets MUST LEAVE PREMISES for a period of 6 hours from completion of service. If anyone has babies under 1 year old, is pregnant or has respiratory health issues, they must vacate for 24 hours.

On re-entry to your suite, no special clean-up is required; however, fresh linens and blankets must be used on all beds. Please refrain from vacuuming or cleaning within 6 inches of baseboards for at least 3 months as you will wash away the residual spray.
